WINTERVILLE — J.H. Rose’s first basket on Friday night gave the Rampants a 3-2 lead that did not last very long.
Their next lead came on Jair Phillips’ 3-pointer to open overtime, and Rose never gave that one back in an improbable, come-from-behind 67-59 win over South Central in the Eastern Carolina 3-A/4-A Conference boys’ championship.
The host Falcons built a 14-point lead to finish an impressive first half, but cooled off in the third quarter and then found themselves out at sea in the fourth, getting outscored 16-6 as Rose (19-7) rallied frantically to tie it 52-52 at the end of regulation.
