WINTERVILLE — Pitt Community College’s basketball team trimmed a 15-point second half deficit to one late in Thursday’s game against Louisburg, but the visiting Hurricanes were able to hold on and hand Pitt a loss in its first game of the new year.

Louisburg’s 92-89 victory in the Coburn Center sent PCC to its third loss in its last four games, but the Bulldogs came close to turning the game around with a late rally after the ‘Canes took their biggest lead — 68-53 — with 9:54 left.

“We made a late run and expended some extra energy and came up short,” Pitt coach Darrick Mullins said after his club fell to 9-3 overall and 1-2 in Region X play.
