The faculty at Wahl-Coates Elementary School are wise to give their students an enthusiastic jumpstart since being designated an arts-focused school beginning in the 2017-18 school year.
The special designation was approved Feb. 1 by the Pitt County Board of Education following its January open enrollment decision. Now the educators must do all they can to make sure the program truly achieves its goals.
The teachers already have begun to integrate art with their core subjects, inviting ECU biology professor and artist Tim Christensen to talk to third-grade students on Monday about how science and art complement each other.
