To PirateFest, Greenville’s annual festival celebrating the community’s history, location and modern diversity. From live music and food, actors in pirate dress, arts and crafts, entertainment and displays about the city’s international population, the PirateFest is a treat each year. Come to downtown Greenville today and have fun, mateys!

To East Carolina University’s annual Purple and Gold Pirate Pigskin Pigout, celebrating the Spring football game this afternoon. An overnight barbecue competition generated food for sale this morning leading to the scrimmage to end the Pirates’ spring practice. East Carolina fans can enjoy good eats and see what the 2012 team looks like.

To procrastinators who expect to spend the weekend filling out their federal and state tax forms prior to Tuesday’s deadline. Each year, promises are made to start earlier to make the process less stressful. But here it is in the final days once again, with a weekend wasted as a result. Perhaps it is sympathy rather than condemnation that’s deserved.
