WINTERVILLE — Derek Latham developed an interest in becoming a logger by watching the Discovery Channel’s North Carolina program “Swamp Loggers.”

Now that Pitt Community College’s continuing education department is offering a class that teaches the logging profession, the 29-year-old Greenville resident can learn the skills that can turn him into a swamp logger like Bobby Goodson.

Goodson, 47, of Jacksonville starred with his crew on “Swamp Loggers” for 24 episodes, working in the lowlands of the Cape Fear River where it meets the Black River, one of its tributaries. The episodes are now in reruns.
