Eostre - a pagan Anglo-Saxon Goddess This mythical figure is said to have been the goddess of the sunrise and the spring. She is the Teutonic goddess of the dawn. The direction of the sunrise, East, is named for her. In Norse mythology, the name is spelled Eostare. Another considered the Norse/Saxon goddess of spring is Ostara. Eastre is believed to be an ancient word for spring. The Hare is associated with her, a fertility symbol.

Pesach - the Passover While pagans celebrated the rites of spring, the Jews celebrated Passover, the anniversary of the day God delivered them out of Egyptian bondage. God had demanded the firstborn male from every household, but had promised to pass over any house with the blood of a perfect lamb smeared on its doorpost. He then commanded the Jews to remember their deliverance through the ceremony of the Passover. Pesach is the Hebrew word for Passover. Its position in the Jewish calendar coincidentally corresponds to the beginning of Spring.

Soooooo...what's your point?

( other than just another rude attempt to trash the religious holiday's celebrated by both Christians and Jews around the world, because you obviously hate them )

As part of our "pagan" celebration, I and several other members of my church have spent a good part of this afternoon preparing trays of breakfast casseroles for the local Crisis Ministry Center. Around 5:30 in the morning, a couple of ladies will begin baking those casseroles. At 7am, several of us will be delivering those casseroles to the center so that folks on the street will have a hot breakfast. We will serve them that breakfast. That is how several of the members of my church will be celebrating that "pagan" holiday. So, tell us, Twitch, how do you plan to celebrate that "pagan" holiday?

. .. Good for you Louis. . . I swear i try to be fair, Twitch is a local and has given his real name. Years ago his moniker was Twitching Lima. Reb and a few gals here called him lima bean. But he has a voice. But why attack Easter? I have no want to stir a pot on this board. Mikey, and Yogi have met him so thats OK for me. I would never talk politics with him, but would enjoy meeting him.

I'd love to meet him, too, just to know Twitch is a real, live person who thinks like he does. I would not discuss politics or religion with him (although I would give him a Gideon Bible and God's plan of salvation, if he gave me half a chance. I'd also be glad to pray with him.)

Why does Twitch attack Easter & Passover?

well, it's obvious...because he hates Judaism, & he hates Christianity...& he hates America, hell, everybody here knows that, it's obvious, if he didn't hate Jews & Christians ( & America ) he wouldn't care about our religious holidays & he wouldn't say anything about them, no more than he would care about a Hindu or Muslim holiday or whatever...he never says anything about their holidays, because he doesn't care, but he constantly makes a mockery of Christian & Jewish holidays...why? Well, that's obvious..because HE HATES THEM.

My point is that this is Easter and I'm showing the origin of that word. And my point is to explore the origin of the things associated with Easter.

Hawk, are you somehow afraid of the Easter bunny and painted eggs? Does it threaten your faith? http://www.religioustolerance.org/easter1.htm

TH never said he was afraid of the Easter bunny or that it threatened his faith. Why do you make things up, Twitch?

Doing good should be a daily goal. I applaud your efforts though and the spirit of giving.

I took in my homeless cousin and her 4-year old and will be providing for them tomorrow. The little girl is looking forward to an Easter basket with painted eggs from the Easter bunny.

BTW, I feed and spay cats, donate money to various charities for the needy throughout the year, as well as conservation and human rights groups. Tomorrow I will awake at sunrise with a cup of java and enjoy a peaceful spring walk.

Have a good one, louis
