The CIA and FBI can their jobs without violating the Constitution.......Spying on foreigners ( even if they live in the US ) is fine........Spying on US citizens without warrants is unacceptable and liberty is lost if we allow this.......
For me, yours is an extremely naïve look at the world in which we find ourselves today. But, hey, the beauty of exchanges like this can be found in the diversity of opinion. A freedom we all enjoy and take advantage of.

Bottom line: my issue is not with my government who has to resort to such measures to protect us...rather, my issue is with all a$$hole terrorists, goons, gangs, cartels, idiots etc., that make such measures necessary. In this instance, I much prefer to direct my ire at those folks. Hang 'em all and hang 'em high and hang 'em publicly ....that's my motto.
Nice thoughts, but unrealistic........We don't hang the murderers, rapists, and child molesters we have NOW, so no need to think government will be anything but soft on crime......... Think about it.........Sam doesn't even have the resolve to stop the lowly mexicans who keep invading our Southern border..........And what, he's gonna protect us from terrorists? The " security " excuses are a facade, my friend........This is about big government, control, and the loss of our privacy.......know it........Heck, just ask your ( libertarian ) son, lol....... ;-)

"Heck, just ask your ( libertarian ) son, lol......." As a matter of fact, he living with us once again and is following this exchange....only comment so far (other than shaking his head) is..."you're wrong, Pop." LOL! got to love my two sons.

Never said it was going to happen (the hanging stuff)...just my wish. For me, the issue with the Mexicans coming here can be traced to a bunch of folks on extended welfare who find doing the work the Mexicans do beneath them. If our US "citizens" would take those jobs and give it their best effort, there would be no need for all of those Mexicans. We have an extremely large class of folks here (all Obama fans) who love to feed for free at the public trough.

Thanks, my friend........I used to think more like you, but found my trust of government was actually naive.........We have been betrayed........We don't have public servants, we have public masters........ More folks will die in car crashes this year than by terrorist attacks......doesn't mean I want Sam lowering the speed limit to 40 in the name of security..........Is what it is.........Life is dangerous...... We could nuke the top ten terrorist hotspots around the globe tomorrow, but it wouldn't prevent another 9/11 or Beantown situation.........Individual acts of violence will always be around........I don't think it's naive to say so, but that's just Mikey's opinion........ I hope your summer is going well........Did you see your sons on Father's Day? I'm sure they are lucky to have you as a role model, and appreciate your wisdom.........It will be with them for their lifetime.......

Setting aside jobs, the mexis will continue to come as long as we give 'em welfare........and don't secure the border........

I have never felt that I am comfortable with what our federal government is doing. There is no one who loves freedom more than I. Sadly, at this point, I have to accept what the government is doing. It is a comprise that I find difficult to accept, no doubt there. As for being a role model, I am not sure about that. All I asked of them was that they honest, upright and productive in everything they do, and be happy in what they were doing....in that regard, they have not let me down.

"More folks will die in car crashes this year than by terrorist attacks" Mike, isn't that really comparing apples to oranges?
