Several Arendell Parrott Academy students recently competed in the annual East Carolina University High School Mathematics Contest. They were among 524 students representing 37 schools at the competition. Parrott’s Algebra I and Comprehensive teams won first place in the team competition with the Algebra II and Geometry Teams coming in second place overall. Parrott won first place overall in the private school category.
Greenville area winners included Andrew Mayo (third place Algebra I), Jane Cao (tie for second place Geometry), Leon Guan (tie for second place Geometry), William Brechtelsbauer (fifth place Algebra II), Jingwei Song (second place Algebra II), Sam Chen (second place Comprehensive) and Colin Hines (fifth place Comprehensive).
Chen, Lee and Hines will represent Parrott at the Comprehensive Team finals at the North Carolina School of Math and Science on April 19. Mayo, Cao, Guan, Brechtelsbauer and Song will advance to the state mathematics competition for Algebra I, Algebra II and Geometry at Fayetteville State University on April 26.
