The Pitt Pirates Robotics team won the North Carolina FIRST Robotics Regional event held last week in Raleigh. The team is made up of 38 students from five of the county’s six high schools.
There were 56 teams at the competition and 89 rounds of competition were played to determine the final brackets. In the double elimination rounds, the Pirates never lost a match.
In addition to winning the actual robotics competition, the team also won the Spirit Award and the Team Safety Award. One student on the team, Sunny Le, also received special recognition as the Safety Star during Friday’s competition round for his ability to exhibit the safety that is practiced by the team.
