A Greenville woman is charged with swindling thousands from elderly residents while she served them as a home health care provider, police said.

Detectives from the Greenville Police Financial Crimes Unit on Friday arrested Shara Latoya Green, 29, according to a news release issued Tuesday by the department.

Detectives believe Green stole a number of checks from an 84-year-old woman and cashed them for a total of $6,800.

What

What are yall so shocked about? Don't you realize that a crack habit gets expensive?

To my knowledge,it is by law

To my knowledge,it is by law that one is innocent until proven guilty. I personally know Shara well and she worked for my family for 3 years. During this time she would be at the home, with my 90 year old great grandmother, by herself and never once did a penny go missing, regardless of the obvious opportunities. It is quite likely, from personal knowledge of the situation, that she is being used as a scapegoat by whomsoever actually took money from the elder. Shara would have gone into poverty before taking money from ANY individual. So for those of you who do not know her, your wrong assumptions are based upon uneducated and misinformed OPINION(s).

Is there a specific crime i.e. "hate crime" designated

just for crimes against the elderly like there is for homosexuals?

Great!!

I was just inquiring about in home care for myself. Well, that idea just went by the wayside.

My father-in-law had 2000 dollars stolen from his wallet, his "running around money" as he called it. He was 86 at the time of his hospital stay. The nurse that stole it was a sweet young thing with a soft voice and accent that could melt butter. He got it back though and the sweet young thing is no longer a nurse. That was years ago in another part of North Carolina.

Guess I'll just get one of those "Help I've fallen and can't get up" buttons to wear around my neck.

A Lawsuit is Needed

The victims and their families should contact an attorney and initiate a lawsuit against the home health care company that employed Shara Green. She was insured and bonded by the company and they carry insurance to cover their employee's intentional and/or accidental 'misconduct'. This sort of thing happens far too frequently. Home health care companies can legally hire employees with criminal records or previous complaints. A complaint should also be made to HIPAA http://www.hhs.gov/ocr/privacy/hipaa/complaints/index.html because patients' privacy was violated with criminal intent. The NC Home Health Care Registry/ Investigation section of the NC Dept of Health and Human Services also needs to be notified. Most importantly however the victims and their families should start legal action against the home health care company that employed Shara Green to get the money back and for punitive damages. When the employing companies are held liable they do a much better job of weeding out the rotten apples. No I’m not a lawyer….I was a victim too.

How to Fix Crime

I would like to offer a plausible solution designed to discourage criminals. When suspected criminals are charged and booked, they need to be actively engaged in giving back to the community that they have perpetrated crimes against. Our inmate population should be forced to perform community service along public roads in traditional black and white jail attire. Remember that you are either part of the solution or you are part of the problem. It is a true travesty that criminal activity has media precedence over the accomplishments of law-abiding citizens.
