An Ayden woman died in a one-vehicle accident near the Pitt County line about 11:45 a.m. Saturday, according to the State Highway Patrol on Sunday.

Norma Lewis, 66, died at the scene after her vehicle hit a tree, said Sgt. D.L. Clifton with the Craven County office of the State Highway Patrol.

Lewis reportedly was speeding when she ran her vehicle off N.C. 118, overcorrected and went into a ditch before hitting the tree.
