Woodward: Payne's gains

As Jada Payne has moved closer to 1,000 points during her two-year East Carolina women’s basketball career, I’ve thought about different ways to approach writing about the feat.

The main obstacle is that Payne doesn’t like to put herself ahead of her teammates, and she especially doesn’t like to talk about her prolific scoring ability.

But I took a stab at asking her about it anyway. After Sunday’s win against No. 25 South Florida, I asked Payne — who needs nine points tonight against Southern Methodist to reach 1,000 — how it felt to be closing in on the milestone.
