During the first few years after our family moved to Winterville in 2001, there was a gas station and convenience store on our regular route into Greenville that seemed determined to go out of business. From the steep price on its gasoline, I wondered if the business might be a front for organized crime.
The continuing drop in gasoline prices has me thinking about that station, which was long ago replaced by a discount mattress franchise. I remember passing that station one day and being amazed at the posted price of regular gasoline. At a $1.49 per gallon, it was nearly 20 cents higher than most other stations in town.
In those days, regular-grade gasoline sold at such a premium price usually came with the added benefit of full service.
