My cousin, Wayne Scarbrough, plays several instruments well, and he’s nearly as old as I am. I remind myself of that when listening to the crazy-talented young people they’re growing these days.
During a visit to my mother’s farm several years ago, my longtime friend and guitar buddy Jim Edgeworth joined Wayne and me for a picking session around the fire ring. Jim’s guitar was still in the case when I asked Wayne to “play that Jerry Reed tune for Jim.”
In addition to being a successful singer, songwriter and actor, Jerry Reed could do things with a guitar on a level more commonly associated with Chet Atkins or Merle Travis.
