By the time anyone reads this, there is a chance that someone will have shamed me into taking down our Christmas tree. But as of Jan. 8, it was still fully decorated, standing tall (albeit not proudly) in our living room.
Clearly, I did not get the memo on National Take Down the Christmas Tree Day — if there even is such a thing, which I doubt. But you would think that it existed based on the reaction I got when the subject came up the other day in my exercise class.
Out of a dozen or more people stepping and jumping to work off all those Christmas cookies, I was the only one whose decorations were not already boxed and shoved into the attic. People stared at me when I told them our tree was still up, like I had said I still had a Jell-O salad from Thanksgiving in my refrigerator or something. I hadn’t felt this exposed since the day my swimsuit split and I had to steal a pair of gym shorts out of the lost-and-found.
