Heading into the Christmas season, pretty much everyone giving pointers to shoppers will offer this same suggestion: Save your receipts.
I don’t disagree that this is a good consumer tip. But, if you ask me, it’s pretty bad marriage advice.
For my husband, every receipt is a cherished keepsake. It makes no difference if it’s for a transmission overhaul for a 1999 Buick La Sabre or a 32-ounce grape Slurpee. He saves the receipt.
