Six or seven years ago, I was hitting golf balls at the Bradford Creek Golf Course driving range when Dave Mirra showed up.
Mirra wasn’t alone. A handful of young kids — almost all of them black, none of them wearing golf shirts — accompanied the BMX legend, who was also sporting shorts and a T-shirt.
Since taking a job at the Reflector in 2005, and taking over the BMX beat a few years later, I had tried, unsuccessfully, to interview Mirra. I left several voice messages for him and emailed his people once or twice but nothing ever came of it.
