As many as 163 employees could be affected by potential layoffs at Convergys Corp. in Greenville.
The Cincinnati-based company, known globally for its customer management software, is one of Pitt County’s larger employers with about 400 workers. The potential layoffs account for about 40 percent of the work force at the Greenville location, which is at 1130 Sugg Parkway in the Indigreen Corporate Park north of the Tar River.
A notice filed with the N.C. Department of Commerce indicates an existing client notified Convergys its business with the company will cease as of April 9. The loss of that client has the potential to affect as many as 163 employees in Greenville, according to the notice filed Jan. 14 by Edward Applegate, Convergys’ human resources business partner. The notice was received Wednesday by the state.
